    The Examiner position is under the Guardianship, Protective Proceedings, and Durable Power of Attorney statute, D.C. Code § 21-2001, et. seq., an individual who is alleged to be incapacitated may have an examiner appointed by the court to evaluate the condition of the individual and to make appropriate recommendations to the court.

    If an individual is deemed incapacitated from the diagnosis of intellectual disability, the preferred examiner will be a qualified intellectual disability professional who can present a complete social, psychological and medical evaluation of the individual to the court.

    The court will decide what services are required and the appropriate Examiner will be contacted.
