The Lead Police Officer is located within Police Service directly under the Supervisory Police Officer GS-8. The Lead Police Officer assists the Supervisory Police Officer and management representatives in the general operation, coordination, and direction of the assigned duty personnel. The incumbent's mission is to serve and protect Veterans, patients, employees, contractors, volunteers, affiliates, visitors, and others who frequent VA facilities. Veterans should be able to enter any VA facility across the country with the confidence that they will receive a consistently high level of protection and customer service from VA Lead Police Officers. This is accomplished through crime prevention activities, typical law enforcement actions, emergency response capabilities, special training and tactics, and weapons, equipment and systems utilization, and Veteran Centered Policing. Successful application of Veteran Centered Policing required VA police use good independent judgement in assessing situations and determining appropriate responses.

Work Schedule: Full time, 80 hours per bi-weekly pay period. 12 hour rotating shifts from 8 AM to 8 PM or 8 PM to 8 AM to include days, nights, weekends and holidays.
