The mission of the Fleet and Family Readiness (FFR) Programs team is to maximize the physical, emotional and social development of the Navy family. FFR enables a ready Navy force through its Fleet Readiness, Family Readiness and Housing Programs. We service all non-appropriated fund (NAF) employees who work for Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR), Navy Gateway Inns & Suites (NGIS) and Bachelor Housing (BH) throughout the Fleet and Family Readiness Program for the Naval District Washington (NDW) Region.

The purpose of this position is to perform a variety of food preparation and food service tasks for the Child and Youth Program. This includes: a) assisting in food preparation with tasks such as peeling, sorting and washing of vegetables, assembling sandwiches; and measuring and weighing ingredients; b) stocking food service carts with appropriate utensils, plates, bowls, food and beverages as for family style dining; c) wrapping, arranging and/or packaging items for serving; d ) making sure food is transported from kitchen area to classrooms, and carts and dishes are returned; e) making sure that kitchen utensils and kitchen sanitation is maintained according to the proper sanitation regulations; f) performing heavy duty cleaning tasks throughout the food service and related areas f) labeling and dating all items in refrigerators and freezers and storing leftovers in accordance with sanitation and health standards; g) ensuring compliance with U.S. Agriculture (USDA) Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP), and all pertaining standards, policies, and regulations; and h) performing other duties as assigned.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
This position is subject to special inoculation and immunization requirements as a condition of employment for working with children. Employee is required to obtain appropriate immunization against communicable diseases in accordance with recommendations from the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), which includes the influenza vaccine. Must pass a pre-employment physical with ability to lift up to 40 lbs, provide evidence of immunization, and be free from communicable disease. Incumbents must satisfactorily complete all background checks, including a NACI. Must satisfactorily obtain or complete required training certificates and maintain certifications/credentials. Child Development Centers are open 5:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. The incumbent must be available to work within the hours of operation.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The incumbent must be minimum 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or equivalent. Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, and possess strong interpersonal communication skill. Knowledge and understanding of food handling techniques, personal hygiene standards, and safe work procedures; knowledge of techniques for measuring ingredients and basic understanding of recipe construction; working knowledge of sanitation standards and procedures to prevent contamination; and skill to develop standardized recipes for quantity cooking. Must be able to frequently lift or move objects weighing up to 40 pounds; ability to concentrate in a noisy, fast-paced environment and ability to perform simple arithmetic and follow oral and written instructions.
Due to Command policy on employee parking, employment does not guarantee a parking space on the installation. Metro is highly encouraged.
