As the Paralegal Specialist in this position, you will:
- Serve as the principal legal advisor on all legal matters;
- Provide paralegal support for Staff Judge Advocate (SJA) and other staff attorneys;
- Perform legal research in source documents, files, and other legal resources to provide answers, background, and attachments for legal communications and documents;
- Monitor status of cases in progress;
- Process required travel and witness/expert fee payment vouchers, witness travel orders, etc.;
- Perform administrative and clerical duties in support of a Legal Office;
- Provide interpretations and guidance to subordinate legal offices on courts-martial pretrial and post-trial procedures;
- Use multiple office automation software with varied functions to produce a wide range of documents, formats, etc.

- This is a uniquely structured legal off that performs functions traditionally spit between two separate command (Numbered Air Force and Major Command). It processes all legal actions and performs all legal reviews relating to the HQ AFDW mission. It also assists attorneys with the implementation and sustainment of processing required financial interest reports using Financial Disclosure Management (FDM).
In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience. If qualifying based on education, a copy of your unofficial transcripts must be provided with your application.
A. At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-07 level (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience must include activities such as: (1) providing paralegal support for attorneys; (2) organizing legal documents relating to general and special courts-martial, summary courts, and other actions such as charge sheets, reports of investigations, exhibits, pretrial and post-trial advice, confinement orders, and appellate decisions; (3) researching federal and state law statutes, regulations, and case law to make recommendations to attorneys; (4) preparing incoming and outgoing administrative correspondence, reports, and messages; and (5) drafting pleadings and motions from complaint to trial to provide assistance to attorneys.
B. A master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related. Note: You must provide copies of your transcripts.
C. An equivalent combination of the specialized experience and graduate level education described above. Note: Only education in excess of the first year (18 semester hours or equivalent) is creditable toward meeting the experience requirement when combining experience and education. To determine if you qualify under this combination first divide your total months of qualifying specialized experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education beyond the first year by 18. Finally, add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. Note: You must provide copies of your graduate transcripts.
