The Office of the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) provides operations support services and business solutions to the community of 10,000 House Members, Officers and staff. The CAO organization comprises more than 600 technical and administrative staff working in a variety of areas, including information technology, finance, budget management, human resources, payroll, child care, food and vending, procurement, logistics and administrative counsel.
The incumbent is responsible for supporting the daily operations of the Logistics & Support/Furnishings Cabinet Shop. Major duties include but are not limited to furniture repair and construction, service calls, shop upkeep, safety, customer service, and workforce planning. Other duties or special projects as assigned. The position does not have day-to-day supervisory/managerial responsibilities.

• Perform basic furniture construction with professionalism and respect to the finishing process, in preparation for the finishing shop.
• Perform quality repair on all types of furniture to include desks, cabinets, chairs, sofas, etc. in the shop and onsite.
• Read and comprehend blueprints, drawings, and written specifications to mark dimensions, estimate the quantities and sizes (measurements) of material needed for furniture construction. • Select and prepare lumber and manufactured sheet goods for assembly into furniture.
• Cut lumber to the correct size and shape, and trim parts of joints to ensure a snug fit using hand and power tools such as planes, chisels, or wood files.
• Bore holes for insertion of screws or dowels, by hand or using boring machines.
• Apply laminates to substrate materials.
• Install hardware such as catches, drawer pulls, handles, hinges, shelves or accessory items using hand or power tools and install completed products.
• With limited supervision, set up and operate woodworking machinery, to include: routers, planers, jointers, power saws, table saws, shapers, etc. Conduct general adjusting and testing of shop machines.
• Work independently on assigned tasks.
• With limited supervision, demonstrate woodcarving skills.
• With limited supervision, evaluate possible solutions to operational problems and make appropriate recommendations to management.
• Instruct as well as learn from fellow co-workers with regards to the skills required in the cabinet trade.
• Assist shop personnel to include shop safety and general servicing, repairing, adjusting, and testing of shop machinery.
• Visit House offices, make deliveries and pickups, and properly receive and stock standard shop supplies as well as large, heavy items such as sheet goods and solid lumber, shop equipment, carpet, glass, etc.
• Perform shop upkeep to include daily sweeping of the floor, taking trash bins to the loading dock, general cleaning, and basic maintenance of shop equipment.
• Other duties as assigned.
SAFETY:
• Abide by all House, Office of Compliance, CAO, and Logistics & Support/Furnishings safety policies and procedures and report any known safety violations to management.
• With regards to equipment use, must follow safety instructions and guidelines as required by Logistics & Support/Furnishings and CAO policy and procedures.
• Must meet medical and physical requirements to wear all personal safety equipment aids, to include but not limited to: respirators, safety shoes, hearing and eye protection, as required.
• Must understand and adhere to the requirements of all House, CAO, and Logistics & Support policies, practices, and procedures concerning the operation of House owned/leased vehicles for official business to include training, inspection, and drug testing if applicable.
Minimum 5 years of relevant experience required.
High school diploma or GED required.
