Physical Demands: The work is mostly sedentary. Some geologic field work is required, including trips to surface and underground mines. Occasional demands include considerable walking, crouching standingand climbing.

This interdisciplinary position serves as the State Office Solid Minerals program lead, Division of Natural Resources, Branch of Minerals, responsible for providing leadership, professional geologic and engineering expertise, and program policy guidance (including operations and leasing) for coal, hardrock minerals, phosphate, and other solid leasable minerals within the jurisdition of blm Eastern States. The incumbent serves as the principle advisor to the Deputy State Director for Natural Resources on matters related to the solid minerals program.
Major duties include but are not limited to:
Candidates must meet all qualification requirements as identified in the OPM Qualifications Standards Handbook. This position is under the Professional and Scientific Qualification Standards.
May require completion of a 1 year probationary period.

KSA 2: Skill in conducting professional reviews or field office reports, decisions, and actions related to pre-lease mineral evaluations, mine plan approvals, inspections, production verification, and mine reclamation.
KSA 3: Knowledge of coal, phophate and other sedimentary and evaporate deposits, including familiarity with safety issues pertaining to underground mining as affected by coal bed methane and oil and gas.
KSA 4: Knowledge of laws, regulations, directives, orders and manuals pertaining to the leasing of solid minerals, including familiarity with some of the most pertinent IBLA and civile court decisions affecting solid minerals; Knowledge of interfacing and adjudicative actions with all mining activities.
KSA 5: Ability to lead or participate on teams to complete projects or other assignments.
