The Department of Veterans Affairs VA Connecticut Healthcare System is seeking candidates for a full-time staff psychologist position in our Primary Care Mental Health Integration clinic. Candidates must have clear clinical expertise and experience delivering mental health and health-related behavioral change interventions within primary care settings. Candidates also must have a track record of training medical professionals, residents, and psychology pre-doctoral and post-doctoral fellows in behavioral medicine and the integration of mental health and primary care services.

Clinical work for this position includes providing individual and group mental health and behavioral medicine brief interventions, as well as mental health crisis management interventions as required within the primary care setting. Clinical work occurs as part of interdisciplinary teams. Services provided by the successful candidate involve diagnosis, assessment, consultation, and psychological interventions that incorporate relevant evidence-based practices, including motivational interviewing, integrated primary care, and cognitive behavioral therapies. Common targeted problem areas include depression, bereavement, anxiety, PTSD, and substance misuse. Services also address smoking cessation, chronic pain, treatment adherence, and risk behaviors as part of disease prevention and chronic disease management (e.g., weight loss and management, tobacco use cessation, promoting patient self-management interventions targeting issues such as increasing participation in regular exercise, healthy eating, sleep hygiene). Psychologists have scheduled appointments with Veterans and also receive same-day referral of patients by warm handoffs from primary care providers.
In addition, the successful candidate will teach and supervise pre-doctoral interns and post-doctoral fellows who seek specialized training in clinical health psychology and integrated care within our American Psychological Association APA-accredited VA Connecticut Healthcare System Internship and Post-doctoral Residency Programs. The successful candidate also will teach medical providers and residents about mental health and behavioral medicine topics.
VA Connecticut Healthcare System is affiliated with Yale University School of Medicine. The successful candidate may seek an academic appointment in the Yale University School of Medicine Department of Psychiatry.
Tour of Duty: 8:00am to 4:30pm, Monday through Friday
Physical Requirements: The work is largely office based and in a sedentary setting. No manual labor is required above ordinary situations.
Basic Requirements:
·U.S. citizenship: Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified

·Education: Must have a doctoral degree in psychology from a graduate program in psychology
accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA) the Psychological Clinical Science Accreditation System (PCSAS), or the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA) at the time the program was completed.
·Internship: Must have successfully completed a professional psychology internship program
that has been accredited by APA or CPA.
·Licensure: Must hold a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice psychology at the
doctoral level in a State, Territory, Commonwealth or the United States (e.g. Puerto Rico) or the
District of Columbia.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Grade Determinations: In addition to the basic requirements, this position requires 2 years of experience as a professional psychologist.
