This National Guard position is for a AIRPLANE PILOT, Position Description Number D2046000, and is part of the Nevada Air National Guard. The primary purpose of this position is to pilot highly advanced military Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA) which involves such functions as launch and recovery, surveillance, surface attack, full scale weapons employment, mortar to arm escort, killer scout, target illumination, laser targeting, functional flight tests, and flight testing. This position description is designed for those National Guard unmanned aircraft where the pilot is issuing flight control commands directly to the aircraft via "stick and rudder" as opposed to those where the operator inputs flight and navigational commands into a flight control system which determines the appropriate "piloting" actions.

1. Pilots the RPA primarily during both combat and non-combat training missions. Examples of non-combat missions include Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) and search and rescue missions. Typical non-combat missions include the support of local, state, and federal agencies following natural disasters or other contingency operations as well as patrolling the Nation's borders. Both combat and non-combat missions involve tracking persons and vehicles at low altitudes for several miles across a variety of terrain.
2. Conducts flight testing, maintenance testing, and Operational Test and Evaluation (OT&E) for existing and emerging RPA operating systems.
3. Supports Large Force Exercises (LFE) and performs Continuation Training (CT).
4. Maintains a thorough knowledge of aircraft systems and procedures under normal, instrument, and emergency conditions. Flights are conducted in both day and night missions in visual and instrument conditions. Maintains current knowledge of the theory of flight, air navigation, meteorology, flying directives, aircraft operating procedures and mission tactics as they apply to the piloting of the RPA.
5. Maintains Combat Mission Ready (CMR) status as an RPA pilot. Responsible for mission planning and preflight briefings that include: intelligence briefings, weather briefings, mission objectives, and other agency coordination to ensure safe flight procedures and effective mission accomplishment. Conducts comprehensive debrief of mission (to include video tape review and digital flight debriefing media) to ensure that the mission objectives were achieved and training rules/Theater SPINS were followed. Monitors physical capability, mental attitudes, and individual problems of all aircrew (pilots, Sensor Operators (SOs), Mission Coordinators (MCs)) to identify individual deficiencies and ensure mission success.
6. Serves as the Air Operations Officer's (AOO) representative when performing duties as: Operations Supervisor (OPSUP), Supervisor of Flying (SOF), or Mission Crew Commander (MCC); and is responsible for the safe and efficient mission accomplishment through the use of Operational Risk Management (ORM). The OPSUP/SOF/MCC has the authority to cancel flying activities, divert aircraft, dictate mission requirements, approve specific activities, coordinate for airport or airspace utilization with FAA, and direct emergency actions involving unit support agencies.

Compatible military grade and assignment required prior to the effective date of placement. In compliance with Title 32 United States Code, the compatible military skill set is determined by the applicable service manpower requirements. Upon selection, individuals are assigned to the authorized position and its compatible military skill in accordance with Air force skill classification directives, statutes, and National Guard Bureau regulations. The Dual Status technician must obtain and maintain all military skill requirements in regard to training, education, certifications, and experience.
