This position is located in the Clinical Nutrition Service, Nutrition Department, Clinical Center, National Institutes of Health (NIH). The position provides technical assistance to the metabolic and clinical research dietitians in managing the nutritional care and research support services for patients of the NIH Clinical Center, including the Metabolic Clinical Research Unit and Metabolic Kitchen as well as other patient care units as assigned.
If you are selected for this position, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:
Males born after December 31, 1959 must be registered with Selective Service.
You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 level in the Federal service. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). Examples of qualifying experience include: performing the following types of tasks: screening patients for nutritional risk; educating patients on drug-nutrient interactions and monitoring meals served for compliance with physician/protocol diet order; implementing and monitoring the nutritional care plan for patients on special or restricted diets; documenting care provided in the patient's medical record and perform nutrient analyses; and managing special nutrient controlled diets and training other staff members.

One and one half years of graduate level education that is directly related to the work of the position (i.e. food, nutrition or dietetics).
OR
A combination of post baccalaureate education and experience that meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position.

A one-year probationary period may be required upon selection/ placement.
A newly appointed or reappointed employee may receive service credit for prior work experience or active duty uniformed service that otherwise would not be creditable for the purpose of determining his or her annual leave accrual rate. All creditable service must be directly related to the duties of the position being filled and decisions to allow for such credit must be finalized prior to the selectee's entrance on duty. The use of this service credit incentive is at the discretion of the selecting official and service credit is granted only for a position deemed hard-to-fill.
This position is designated as an 'emergency' position and the selected candidate will be considered an 'emergency' employee and will be required to be available, ready, willing, and able to report for duty under all circumstances, e.g., inclement weather, government closings and holidays, lapse in appropriations, non-emergency and emergency situations for operation 24 hours a day and 365 days per year coverage.
Depending upon programmatic needs, the not-to-exceed date of this position may be extended, without further competition, in increments up to a maximum of four years from the effective date. This position may be terminated at any time prior to the NTE date.
