This position is located at the Dalecarlia Water Treatment Plant, 5900 MacArthur Boulevard NW, Washington, DC. This position is under the supervision of the Washington Aqueduct. The Aqueduct, while part of the US Army Corps of Engineers, is a large scale, vital public utility, wholly financed through the sale of potable water. The job provides the opportunity to work at one of the largest water utilities in the nation, serving the public and producing a product which impacts the lives of all metropolitan area citizens and businesses on a daily basis. You will serve as Deputy Chief for the Washington Aqueduct Division. You will assist the Chief in the operation and maintenance of a large and complex water works system for collection, treatment, pumping, storage, and transmission of an adequate and potable water supply for the District of Columbia, Arlington County, and the Fairfax County Water Authority's distribution system in the City of Falls Church, Virginia.

Experience required:

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Your resume must describe at least one year of specialized experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: having one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level in the Federal Service to include: 1) Managing multi-disciplined engineering projects for a water or other industrial facility; 2) Providing technical guidance on engineering and construction projects to include quality, schedule and budget, 3) Knowledge of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) hardware and software control processes, and 4) Knowledge of water treatment and pumping operations.

This position requires the applicant to obtain and maintain a Facilities Engineering Program (Level III) certification. This position is designated as a key emergency essential position which means that this position cannot be vacated during war or national emergency without seriously impairing the capability of the parent organization to function effectively.
A. Possess a Bachelor's Degree in Professional Engineering from a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum. NOTE: THIS DOES NOT INCLUDE ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY.
B. Possess a Bachelor's or higher-level degree in Professional Engineering which included differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. (NOTE: You must attach a copy of your transcripts for verification).
C. Have a combination of education and experience. Am currently registered as a professional engineer by a state, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. I also have college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying professional engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. E. Have a combination of education and experience. Have a combination of at least 4 years of college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that included successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements (see "B" above). The courses are fully acceptable toward meeting the requirements of a professional engineering curriculum as described in "A" and "B" above. My college-level education, training, and/or technical experience furnished me with (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying professional engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. OR
F. Have a combination of education and experience. Have a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Technology or in an appropriate professional field (for example, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology), AND I have at least one (1) full year of professional engineering experience acquired under a professional training program or under professional engineering supervision and guidance. My college-level education, training, and/or technical experience furnished me with (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying professional engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering.
