This position is located in the China Branch in the East Asia and Pacific Division at the Voice of America in Washington, DC. The incumbent serves as the China Branch Chief and has overall editorial responsibility to plan and direct high quality journalism, and all managerial activities of the China Branch, including Mandarin and Cantonese multimedia broadcasts to the People's Republic of China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and elsewhere in Asia.

The Broadcasting Board of Governors (BBG), an independent federal agency, is an exciting, multi-cultural organization that encompasses all United States civilian international broadcasting. The BBG is comprised of five networks broadcasting in 61 languages that include the Voice of America, the Office of Cuba Broadcasting (Radio and TV Marti), and three grantee organizations - Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty; the Middle East Broadcasting Networks (Alhurra TV and Radio Sawa), and Radio Free Asia. The International Broadcasting Bureau provides transmission, administrative, and other support services; and three grantee organizations. Duties include, but are not limited to:
-Responsible for the overall quality and content of the Mandarin and Cantonese Services, ensuring adherence to the VOA charter and journalistic code.
-Provides editorial direction for selecting and approving subject matter to be covered and exercises sound editorial judgment.
-Oversees and manages a multimedia news operation, using consumption metrics for all platforms to determine the usefulness of China Branch products, measuring usage both by affiliates, social media, and audience for any TV or radio programs.
-Oversees and manages the production of internet, radio, television and social media content and programming.
-Develops plans and strategic objectives, including establishing the China Branch's general scope of operations.
-Enforces journalism best practices and ethics, including content is accurate, fair and balanced.
-Stays fully informed on developments in the U.S., the world, and in China. Assures that those interest to the targeted audience are appropriately covered in Mandarin and Cantonese radio, TV and digital programming.
-Supervises a large staff of writers, editors, reporters, producers, etc. Prepares individual performance evaluations, interviews and selects staff members, approve/decline leave requests, recommends training for staff, and handles disciplinary actions when needed.

-This position may require working nights, weekends, and holidays.
-This position has been designated supervisory requiring that the selectee on an initial appointment as a supervisor or manager serve a one-year probationary period.
