This position is located in the National Gallery of of Art, Facilities Management Division, Operations Department. The purpose of the positon is to supervise the work of USRO-related workers in order to maintain the proper environment within the Gallery for works of art, staff members, and visitors to the Gallery.
The incumbent serves as the senior HVAC system supervisor on the shift and is relied upon to operate, maintain, regulate, facilitate, repair, and solve virtually all problems that arise on the shift. The incumbent is responsible for the smooth running of the HVAC system in all its many aspects and facets in all of the areas that the system covers including the many areas where priceless and delicate art treasures are present.

The incumbent supervises the work activities of multiple trades within the Operations Department of the National Gallery of Art’s Facilities Management Division. Receives general supervision and direction from the Assistant Operations Manager. Oversees a combined work force to maintain the proper environment within the National Gallery for all works of art, staff members, and visitors. Ensures the quality and quantity of work accomplished by the combined assigned work force within the Operations Department meets the established Gallery standards. Serves as a senior HVAC supervisor and is the technical overseer of the vital HVAC system including all related mechanical, plumbing and control systems and is relied upon to operate, maintain, regulate, facilitate, repair, and solve problems that arise on the shift.
Incumbent utilizes the skills of the assigned staff to schedule maintenance, repair, installation and up-keep of all mechanical rooms and related equipment throughout the NGA. The incumbent is engaged in operating, adjusting, modifying, repairing, installing components and performing major and minor preventative maintenance on mechanical equipment and plumbing systems, facilities. Directly monitors the Building Automation System (BAS) which monitors and and controls the physical plant, heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems.
The incumbent assists in developing quality standards for work accomplishment. Reviews and inspects completed staff and contractor work. And, coordinates work operations with managers and supervisors of other departments.
Performs a full range of supervisory responsibilities for assigned staff, establishes a good working climate and promotes good morale. Promotes an effective safety program and ensures that workers follow approved safety practices. Trains staff members in all aspects of the work, as necessary.
Physical Requirements: Physical requirements: Work may require climbing ladders, scaffolding and platforms or similar exertion. Full use of the senses including hearing, sight, smell and touch is required. Crawling, bending, stooping, crouching, and lifting objects weighing over 80 pounds are required. Position requires prolonged standing and extended walking on concrete and marble floors.
