These nursing position are located within the Clinical Center Nursing Department (CCND) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Clinical Center (CC), in the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). The GS-12 Senior Clinical Research Nurse (SrCRN) reports directly to a Nurse Manager for a unit or clinic within the specialty area with an assignment as the protocol coordinator, unit based clinical educator, or senior clinical expert for a designated patient population/program of care. The SrCRN serves as a leader in the area of specialized clinical practice and may take multiple roles in planning and providing care to individual research participants or in coordinating and implementing clinical studies. The ideal candidate possesses expertise and knowledge related to the specific program of care to include strong teaching and leadership skills with the ability to utilize advanced critical thinking.
The National Institutes of Health (NIH), Clinical Center (CC), is the 200-bed research hospital and ambulatory care research facility in Bethesda, Maryland that supports the Intramural Research Program (IRP) of the National Institutes of Health. It is the largest inpatient facility in the country devoted exclusively to clinical research, and provides a full range of services from ambulatory care to critical care and special procedures. The focus at the CC on early phase and first-in-human clinical trials and on the study of rare diseases makes it possible to rapidly translate scientific observations and laboratory discoveries into new approaches for diagnosing, treating, and preventing disease.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION
You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal Government. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Examples of qualifying experience include: utilizing advanced critical thinking and nursing skills to assess, plan, perform, and evaluate nursing care for patients in biomedical research protocols; providing direct patient care to patients within their program of care; supporting biomedical research through detailed observation, measurement, and accurate data collection related to as defined by assessment or protocol specifications; accurately documenting observations, identifying trends and important findings, and effectively communicating this information to the multidisciplinary research team; providing feedback to colleagues and investigators on all issues affecting the quality of the research endeavor, and assisting less-experienced nurses in learning the specifics of studies or protocols; contributing to multidisciplinary conferences and activities regarding research participant care and protocol implementation; resolving clinical and operational issues in collaboration with supervisor, and demonstrating decisions and actions that

PART-TIME WORK SCHEDULE: Salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked.
This position is designated as an 'emergency' position and the selected candidate will be considered an 'emergency' employee and will be required to be available, ready, willing, and able to report for duty under all circumstances, e.g., inclement weather, government closings and holidays, lapse in appropriations, non-emergency and emergency situations for operation 24 hours a day and 365 days per year coverage.
A newly appointed or reappointed employee may receive service credit for prior work experience or active duty uniformed service that otherwise would not be creditable for the purpose of determining his or her annual leave accrual rate. All creditable service must be directly related to the duties of the position being filled and decisions to allow for such credit must be finalized prior to the selectee's entrance on duty.
