About the Position:
Ft Belvoir Community Hospital (FBCH) is a community hospital with a capacity of 120 beds, with a total square footage in area of responsibility in excess of 1.5M square feet. FBCH's Facilities Management Department (FMD) currently has 20 personnel organized into 5 Sections, the Operations and Maintenance Section. The other four Sections are Operations and Maintenance, Environmental Services, Planning and Design, and Business Operations. All five sections report directly to the Department Chief. FMD is responsible for facility operations, maintenance, renovation, and construction work for the FBCH campus and its outlying facilities. The incumbent will perform planning and estimating for maintenance and repair projects; will perform troubleshooting of hospital utility architectural systems; will monitor maintenance, inspections, testing and reporting of hospital utility systems in compliance with requirements of The Joint Commission; and will recommend changes to policies and procedures as required.

Prepares engineering designs, specifications, and cost estimates for engineering projects in a medical, dental, and industrial facilities, technical and research laboratories, and multistory office buildings. Receives engineering requests and determines what is needed to fulfill the intent of requests making on-site visits to affected locations to independently investigate particular items or groups of items for inadequacies, modification of original equipment and facilities to meet requirements. Reviews and studies manufacturers' drawings and specifications, brochures, engineering handbooks, established design practices, or other information on any phase of a project to determine, visualize, and select the possible design approaches for application. Determines requirements and develops specifications and designs for engineering projects and instrumentation, whether new construction or modification of existing structures and/or systems, for small to medium - sized construction, repair, and/or maintenance projects. Provides sketches, mathematical computations and dimensional calculations in the development of initial and finalized designs of various equipment for facility maintenance, repair and construction projects that requires structural changes to buildings and utility systems, piping for industrial waste, duct work for air conditioning, ventilating, heating, control panels, wiring and lighting.
