The Deputy Inspector General serves as second-in-command to the Inspector General and participates fully in the development and direction of the OIG’s mission of effective oversight of the programs and operations of the Department of Veterans Affairs.
The incumbent is responsible for directing a comprehensive oversight program that includes audits, investigations, healthcare inspections, and management support programs. The incumbent also has significant interactions with senior officials at Veterans Affairs, as well as with Congress, other federal agencies, the GAO, and Veterans Service Organizations.
The Deputy Inspector General delegates authority to subordinate Assistant Inspectors General and holds them responsible and accountable for the quantity and quality of the performance of their organizational units.
The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.
