This position provides senior expertise in strategic planning and technical advice regarding national preparedness. This position starts at a salary of $112,021 (GS-14). Every FEMA employee has regular and recurring emergency management responsibilities, though not every position requires routine deployment to disaster sites. All positions are subject to recall around the clock for emergency management operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the official duty station, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official position description. Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically austere and operationally challenging conditions.
In this position typical assignments include:
- Performs substantive mission-oriented work and serves as a senior expert advisor to high-ranking career officials, professional staff in FEMA headquarters and its regions concerning emergency preparedness exercise policy issues.
- Develops and coordinates major national programs related to planning and technical assistance, national preparedness, exercises, evaluations and assessments.
- Performs as a spokesperson at nation-wide conferences, meetings, committees and working groups that propose, defend and/or criticize continuity and emergency preparedness criteria, in order to promote and maintain a proactive preparedness posture.
- Serve as a senior level program manager to executive leadership and professional staff in the headquarters and regional offices relative to short and long range emergency preparedness resources through on-going inter-Agency communications and planning efforts.
