As an Electronics Engineer, duties may include and are not limited to:
**Perform engineering calculations, analyze data and use engineering techniques to draw conclusions in the performance of engineering-related tasks;
**Conduct tests or quality assurance reviews of electronic and mechanical systems to support production acceptance testing or system validation efforts;
**Assist in the design of hardware and/or microprocessors in support of weapons systems design efforts;
**Develop written material documenting technical findings for management review;
REQUIREMENTS
Generally, current Federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade. following seven areas of engineering science of physics: (a) statics, dynamics;
(b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics,
hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature
and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to
properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering
science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics; or
electronics.
OR-
For Professional Engineering Series - Substitution of Education/Experience
(0855): Combination of education and experience that furnished (1) a
thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying
professional engineering; and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and
practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to
one of the branches of engineering. The adequacy of such background must
be demonstrated by one of the following: (a) Professional
Engineer registration, (b) evidence of successfully passing the
Engineer-in-Training (EIT) examination; (c) successful completion of at least
60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering
sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified above; or (d)
successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in
engineering technology or in an appropriate professional field, e.g., physics,
chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology,
may be accepted in lieu of a degree in engineering provided that it included at
least 1 year of professional engineering Experience acquired under professional
engineering supervision and guidance.
FOR GS-07: In addition, your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector as a professional engineer working with electronics systems, components or processes. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities, to successfully perform the duties of the position.
Education may be substituted for specialized experience as follows: Successful completion of one full year of graduate education; -OR-, completion of a bachelor degree with superior academic achievement; -OR-, a combination of education and experience as described above that equates to one year of experience.
FOR GS-09: In addition, your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector as a professional engineer assisting with designing and developing electronic systems.
