This position serves as Supervisory Federal Air Marshal (SFAM) within the Office of Law Enforcement/ Federal Air Marshal Service (OLE/FAMS) within the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), Department of Homeland Security (DHS.). SFAMs are responsible for directing the work of subordinate Federal Air Marshals who are deployed worldwide on passenger flights of U.S. air carriers and serve to counter the risk of criminal/terrorist violence and aircraft piracy, in order to meet national security concerns. As Federal Law Enforcement Officers, SFAMs perform the following duties:

SFAM positions receive secondary coverage under 5 USC 8336(c) for applicants covered by the Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS) and 5 USC 8412 (d) for applicants covered by the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS). Applicants covered by CSRS in a primary position under 5 USC 8336(c) must meet eligibility requirements for mandatory separation under 5 USC 8335(b), including coverage in a primary position, before transferring directly, without a break in service exceeding 3 days, to a secondary position. Applicants covered by FERS in a rigorous position under 5 USC 8412(d) must meet the eligibility requirements for mandatory separation under 5 USC 8425(b), including coverage in a rigorous position for at least 3 years, before transferring directly, without a break in service exceeding 3 days, to a secondary position.
DUTY LOCATION/TEMPORARY ASSIGNMENTS: Federal Air Marshals must be available for permanent or long-term temporary (e.g. 30-day, 90-day, 120-day, etc.) assignments in any U.S. or international location in which the Federal Air Marshal Service operates.
HOURS OF DUTY: Federal Air Marshals are subject to 24-hour on call duty. The work day of a Federal Air Marshal is often longer than 8 hours and will include working overtime, extended hours, and/or irregular schedule as assigned. Federal Air Marshals are subject to changing shifts and assignments based on the needs of the Federal Air Marshal Service. Flexible schedules are not available and candidate must agree to perform the duties and duty tours as assigned.

Applicants will be evaluated through multiple assessments. First, applicants will apply using an online application process. Applications will be reviewed to determine the applicant's eligibility to apply for the Supervisory Federal Air Marshal SV-1801-J position. Applicants that are found eligible will be required to take two Computer Based Tests, consisting of a Logic Based Reasoning Test and a Writing Skills Assessment, as well as a Leadership Job Simulation assessment. Additionally, applicants will participate in a Duty Office Assessment, consisting of a panel interview. The interview will be held at the applicant’s Duty Office and conducted by the SAC, a DSAC/ASAC, and the applicant’s direct supervisor. Each assessment will be used to rate applicants according to relative merit for this position. At the conclusion of all assessments, applicants will be provided with their scores.

Applicants that do not complete the LJS by the date specified in the email will not be able to complete the process.
Eligible applicants will participate in a panel interview at their assigned Duty Office. The interview session will be scheduled by Field Office personnel and must be completed by the date specified.
Upon completion of all steps in the process, applicants will be notified of their scores via the Candidate Dashboard.
