NSF is relocating to Alexandria, Virginia. In the late summer of 2017, NSF will begin the transition from its current location in Arlington, Virginia to 2415 Eisenhower Avenue, Alexandria, VA 22314. The new location is adjacent to a Metro station (Eisenhower Avenue on the Yellow Line) and there is ample parking in the area. There are several amenities nearby, such as restaurants, hotels, and shops.

Serves as the Division Director, Division of Integrative Organismal Systems (IOS), working closely with the Deputy Division Director of IOS to provide vision and leadership for the Division.
Serves as a member of the senior leadership team of the Directorate for Biological Sciences, working cooperatively with other Division and Deputy Division Directors, in advising and aiding the Assistant Director, the Deputy Assistant Director and senior staff in the Directorate for Biological Sciences.
IOS contributes to NSF’s mission by supporting fundamental research aimed at an integrative understanding of organisms as units of biological organization. IOS supports projects in the broad areas of neurobiology, behavior, physiology, development, symbioses, and biomechanics.
The Division Director provides vision and leadership, and works jointly with the Deputy Division Director in oversight of all activities of the Division of IOS. This includes providing guidance to program officers, administrative and support personnel, recruitment of scientific staff, assessing needs and trends, developing breakthrough opportunities, implementing overall strategic planning, and policy setting. The Division Director is responsible for the effective use of division staff and resources in meeting organizational goals and objectives. The Division Director supervises professional staff within the Division. The Division Director determines funding requirements, prepares and justifies budget estimates, balances program needs, allocates resources, and oversees the evaluation of proposals and recommendations for awards and declinations. The Division Director represents NSF to relevant external groups and fosters partnerships with other Divisions, Directorates, Federal agencies, scientific organizations and the academic community.

Essential
1. Ph.D. or equivalent professional experience or a combination of education and equivalent experience in one of the areas of biological sciences supported by the Division (i.e. behavioral systems, developmental systems, neural systems, and physiological and structural systems).
2. Substantial research contributions and strong evidence of scholarship and leadership in disciplines related to integrative organismal systems as evidenced in publications and other professional contributions.
3. Skill in balancing complex and diverse program demands and available resources in response to major advances or changing needs of science and engineering research and technology.
4. Broad understanding of universities and other institutions where research and education in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics is conducted, including knowledge of grant administration and fiscal management in biological sciences research support.
