A Supervisory Surface Maintenance Specialist, GS-1670-11, Exercises administrative and technical supervision of one or more surface maintenance facilities. Plans and schedules work to be accomplished by subordinates. Develops, implements, and oversees the quality assurance program for assigned surface maintenance facilities. Reviews work instructions, technical data, inspection methods and test procedures to ensure adequacy. Reviews quality and flow of materials and supplies required to support maintenance activities. Confers with equipment users to resolve problems and ensures satisfaction. Provides technical guidance to assigned maintenance activities through coordinated assistance or evaluation visits. Visits assigned surface maintenance facilities on a regular basis to promote efficient operations and compliance with established standards. Oversees hazardous waste/industrial hygiene programs for maintenance facilities supervised. Identifies special tools, test equipment requirements, and coordinates procurement as needed. Provides technical guidance to supply and Class IX functions. Performs other duties as assigned.
