Responsibilities include oversight and day-to-day management of all Clinical Center operations in alignment with the strategic goals and direction provided by the CEO, the Clinical Center Governing Board, and the Clinical Center Hospital Research Board.
This position offers a unique and exciting opportunity to serve as a key member of the Clinical Center leadership team and be the primary advisor to the Clinical Center Chief Executive Officer and the senior managers of the Clinical Center on all operational aspects of the Clinical Center.
The Chief Operating Officer develops strategies in the areas of stewardship of resources, service excellence, and reorganization to achieve operational excellence in the areas of patient safety, clinical quality, and administrative efficiency.
Manages, supports, and provides interdisciplinary leadership in clinical, scientific, and administrative forums in advancing the Clinical Center toward high reliability in healthcare.
He/she provides guidance to senior program and scientific staff on human and financial resource utilization, administrative management, infrastructure and human capital issues to support and advance the achievement of the Clinical Center's mission.
Ensures that the Clinical Center complies with local, state and federal laws and regulations as they apply to operations of the Clinical Center.
The Chief Operating Officer builds organization capability through the development and implementation of effective hiring and development strategies and continuously strives to incorporate new ideas and information into Clinical Center policies and procedures.
He/she is skilled at presenting ideas and innovative solutions, taking into account input and opinions from key stakeholders.

1. Demonstrated comprehensive experience providing continual, open and effective communication cross-cutting all levels of a healthcare organization to include health care staff, patients, administrators, board of directors, and accrediting and regulatory bodies, research investigators and staff.
2. Demonstrated comprehensive and substantial experience in providing senior leadership of health care programs that promotes quality patient care during times of organizational and cultural change in a hospital.
3. Experience developing, managing and overseeing the operations of a health care delivery system from a nationwide network including many hospitals to a major subdivision of an individual hospital, particularly in a clinical research setting with a focus on patient safety.
