You will serve as a Highway Safety Specialist and report to the Regional Administrator (RA) and Deputy Regional Administrator (DRA), Region 8. The regional office has the responsibility for developing, improving, and overseeing traffic safety programs, including those aimed at increasing safety belt and child restraint use and reducing the incidence of impaired driving, along with other health and safety programs that reduce traffic crashes, deaths, injuries, and property damage. Under direction and guidance from the RA/DRA, you will develop, promote and employ safety countermeasures, materials, and information for use by states, communities, and advocacy organizations to support traffic safety injury control programs.
You will be responsible for providing technical assistance and advice to States, private and public sector organizations, and consumers regarding priority highway safety programs of the Agency. With assistance from the RA/DRA, you will be expected to: I ) develop, implement, and promote health and safety countermeasures to change societal attitudes and behaviors about driving, walking, and bicycling; 2) train partners, constituents, and stakeholders about federal regulations and their application when administering grant funds; 3) provide consultation and technical assistance to state and community partners on the use of data and program evaluation; and, 4) identify innovative solutions to traffic safety problems.
NHTSA is looking for a moderately experienced employee who has excellent communication and financial management skills. Experience in managing projects, grants, data analysis and problem identification, project and management auditing and oversight, program administration and evaluation and problem identification is a plus also.
