This is a Career-Seasonal position and subject to release and recall procedures. A permanent career-seasonal position includes all the benefits of permanent employment, but does not provide employment on a full year-round basis. As such, selectee will be in a non-pay/non-duty status for at least 2 weeks to 6 months per year based on project requirements or weather conditions. Selectee are guaranteed to work at least 6 months per year but not more than 50 weeks per year, with the work schedule to be determined upon appointment. The typical operational season for Pacific West-Upper Columbia Basin Inventory and Monitoring is April through October, but can be variable during these months due to project requirements or weather conditions.

GS-06: Incumbent will perform under closer supervision, on less complex problems and issues, and/or on a much narrower scope.
GS-07: Incumbent will be responsible for independently conducting terrestrial vegetation monitoring, managing complex field schedules, and maintaining and improving guidance documents and standard operating procedures. Emphasis will be on rangeland vegetation monitoring. The incumbent will communicate with collaborators and contribute to the development of reports and data products; maintain detailed documentation of methods for data collection, equipment maintenance and setup, and improvement of guidance documents for data collection, data quality control, and data management; and contribute to reports and presentations. The position requires an ability to work independently toward established strategic goals, to lead data management for large project datasets, and to coordinate the maintenance and improvement of an array of guidance and technical documents. The position requires good computer skills with an emphasis on database applications for data entry and data management, as well as on GIS software for managing spatial data and preparing maps, and the use of GPS units to load point locations and navigate in the field. The incumbent must possess excellent organization and communication skills, and manage complex field schedules and project communications with collaborators and partners.
