Serve as principal operator of a derrick or crane aboard a derrick barge or crane barge displacing 175 to 1100 tons engaged in waterway maintenance on the Great Lakes.
Function as second in charge aboard assigned vessel.
Principle operator of a crane or derrick aboard vessel engaged in channel maintenance and hoisting services such as wrecking, hoisting, removing channel obstructions, repairing breakwaters which may include concrete work and grouting), setting stone on breakwaters construction, repair of docks and steel sheet pile driving.
When required, direct the placement of the derrick boat in position, the placement of anchors and fastening of lines, the operation of deck winches and the anchoring of the boat.
Work from plans or field notes showing location and extent of work to perform strike removal in the navigational channel.
Locate work areas and make necessary arrangements for accomplishing required work.
When required, prepare daily time sheet showing the crew's hours worked, and daily reports to include; area excavated in square feet, area swept in square feet, yardage dug each day, yardage unloaded each day, types of materials, weather conditions, gauge readings, safety, etc.
When required, direct and assign the crew tasks to be performed.
Make periodic inspections of cables, crane, and all other associated crane parts as needed. Make necessary repairs as needed.
Assists crew in overall maintenance of vessel.

SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Ability to do the work as a Operator Marine Derrickboat XH-5725-08 without more than normal supervision.You will also be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency (knowledge, skills, and abilities) in the following areas:

Frequently performs lifting of up to 50 pounds.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Subject to dangers inherit to derrickboat operations, such as overturning boat, drowning, falling, being struck by loads. The possibility exists of sustaining cuts and bruises in connection with repair activities. Works indoors and outdoors under varied weather conditions
