The South Texas Veterans Health Care System (STVHCS) in San Antonio, Texas is looking for a Cardiologist-Cardiac Electrophysiologist at the Audie L. Murphy Memorial Veterans Hospital in San Antonio, TX.
This is a joint hire position between STVHCS and University of Texas Health at San Antonio (UTHSA.) The selected applicant will work part time (5/8) at STVHCS and part time (3/8) at UTHSA.
This is a great opportunity to be part of a large Cardiology section at a level 1a VA hospital. The section includes 15 physicians, 4 mid levels, and additional support personnel. The cardiology section also encourages faculty to conduct clinical research.
The Audie Murphy VA Hospital has a strong academic affiliation with UTHSA. Training and supervision of residents and students should be expected.

Responsibilities include clinical, teaching/supervision of residents and administration.
Clinical:
Teaching/Supervision of residents (25% of time): Includes 2 week CCU coverage approximately 2 times per year
Administrative (10% of time): Leadership, Human Resources, Staff management, Time/Leave management, and Clinical management.
Research Duties (If applicable): Physician researchers will show an ability to identify and define significant research and developmental problems, to plan and execute a precise research program, and to generate effective reports and results worthy of publication.
Duty Hours:
Coordinated with UTHSA but performed 8:00am-4:30pm, Monday-Friday
On Call requirements: Coverage includes the VA Hospital and UTHSA Hospital. Primary on call duties will be telephone consults. It is very rare to actually report to the facility.
Physical Requirements: A pre-placement physical examination will be completed prior to appointment to determine the physical and mental fitness of candidates. Physical requirements include, but not limited to: Moderate lifting (15-44 pounds), light carrying under 15lbs, reaching above shoulder, use of fingers, both hands required, walking (6 hour), standing (6 hours), repeated bending (2-4 hours), both eyes required, ability to distinguish basic colors, ability to distinguish shades of colors, hearing (aid permitted), mental/emotional stability, ability to perform privileges, independently performs physical exams as appropriate to position, and cognitive stability.
Physicians must have completed residency training or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.

experience, including volunteer experience.
