The incumbent must be a licensed optometrist with relevant work experience, residency training and licensure in the discipline of Optometry. In order to perform the indicated function, the incumbent must have qualifications that include: graduation from a formally accredited school or college of optometry, completion of an ACOE accredited postgraduate optometric residency, and a current, active and unrestricted license to practice optometry in a state, territory or commonwealth of the United States including the District of Columbia.
The Staff Optometrist operates in an ambulatory care setting within the facility. Optometry is organizationally part of the Surgery Service Line. The Staff Optometrist is a licensed independent practitioner responsible for patient care activities in the Eye Clinic. Planning, coordinating and exercising professional judgment in initiating and implementing administrative and clinical decisions are integral components of the position.

The Staff Optometrist is a licensed independent practitioner responsible for patient care activities in the Eye Clinic. Planning, coordinating and exercising professional judgment in initiating and implementing administrative and clinical decisions are integral components of the position.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical requirements of this position include lifting, prolonged standing and sitting, frequent bending, walking (distance), climbing, reaching (overhead, extensive/repetitive), repetitive motion and stooping. The mental/sensory requirements include recall, reasoning, problem-solving, hearing, speaking clearly, writing legibly, keyboarding, reading and logical thinking. The environment's pace can vary from steady to a sometimes fast pace requiring handling of multiple priorities, frequent, sometimes intense customer interactions, and the ability to adapt to frequent changes in a sometimes noisy environment. There may be the need to use personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to disease, illness and hazardous materials.
