Employee will be assigned to the Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Unit, Engineering Service, VA Medical Center, Dayton Ohio, performing maintenance, repair, programming, and operation of air conditioning, DDC controls, ventilation, and refrigeration equipment located at the facility. Duties include, but may not be limited to the following:
Works on highly complex systems of electronic sensing and control; installs, maintains, repairs, programs, and operates the campus wide Building Automation System (BAS); and is responsible for the programming, integration of components, interfacing, security, troubleshooting, and updating.
Has knowledge of logic circuits, electronic amplification, and control circuits, and of complex electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and/or pneumatic systems; is well grounded in the environmental control processes to be accomplished by the equipment on which they work in order to properly test and coordinate the various portions of the system; and observes and interprets data generated by the facility's Building Automation System and adjusts equipment to ensure optimum efficiency, and maximize energy usage.
Understands environmental monitoring and control systems that use special purpose, dedicated computers to store operating parameters and initiate adjustments; has general knowledge of heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning (HVAC) and refrigeration equipment and processes such as heating, cooling, humidification, dehumidification, steam, hot water, chilled water, filtration,
etc.; and supports the HVAC shop and assists in maintenance and repairs within the AC unit.
Interprets engineering drawings that combine electrical and electronic schematics, logic diagrams, and mechanical drawings.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm

CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENT: The position requires a current Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) approved Universal Refrigerant Certification. This is in accordance with the 1990 Clean Air Act, for the purpose of recovering, reclaiming, and recycling refrigerants. (NOTE: Please submit a copy of the certification with your application packet.)
NOTE: Employee must be able to obtain Niagara AX Certification within one year of employment.
Physical effort and work conditions: Employee must be able to stand for long periods of time, work in confined or awkward/cramped spaces, able to adapt to heat, cold and dampness; must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds as he/she will be required t0 frequently carry and set up parts and equipment up to the 50 pounds. Duties actively involve climbing, pulling, kneeling, bending, and walking for prolonged periods. Employee works inside, outside, and is exposed to possible cuts, bruises, electrical shock, and burns. Employee is required to occasionally operate government vehicles to transport tools and workers to and from a work site to include Community Based Outpatient Clinics. Employee may be subjected to adverse conditions such as heat, cold, noise, moisture, and electrical or health hazards associated with a health care facility. Employee is required to work occasionally outside, on top of tall buildings, in drafty small spaces.
