Resolution of shipboard technical issues involves working on the ship where considerable walking, climbing, stooping and standing for several hours at a time on hard steel decks is required. Riding the ship during underway repairs (2-7 days) at a time will be required. The work regularly involves frequent exposure to hazardous conditions such as: high electrical voltages; large rotating machinery elements; electromagnetic radiation from high powered transmitters; nuclear radiation in and around machinery spaces aboard nuclear powered ships; explosive, flammable, or incendiary materials; turbines; condensers; etc. and entering enclosed spaces below the ship's water line. The work is normally required aboard U.S. and foreign naval ships at berths, at anchor or at buoys within the harbor. On numerous occasions and with short notice, there will be requirements to perform temporary additional duty at sea on naval ships and/or at naval or private shipyards located throughout the world (including combat zones) utilizing government as well as commercial aircraft. Helicopters and aircraft (COD) flights are utilized for transfer to/from ships at sea. High line transfer from ship to ship may be occasionally required.

Listen to others and recognize potential miscommunications; PROBLEM SOLVING - Use logic to identify alternatives to solve technical problems. Identify and solve problems by gathering and applying information from a variety of materials or sources that provide several alternatives. In the event of a crisis situation of war, the incumbent must continue to perform assigned duties to support mission requirements until relieved by proper authority. In addition, this position requires Anthrax and Smallpox vaccinations. The Anthrax vaccination is a series of 6 shots occurring at 0, 2 and 4 weeks; then at 6, 12 and 18 months, followed by an annual booster as long as you remain in the position. Smallpox vaccination is a one-time inoculation. We strongly recommend that you receive the Smallpox vaccination and begin the Anthrax series before arriving in Bahrain and provide a shot card or other medical verification upon arrival. If this is not possible, you will be required to report to the Branch Health Clinic to receive these mandatory vaccinations within 15 days of arrival.
