Major Duties and Responsibilities: Performs major repairs and maintenance on heavy mobile equipment and special purpose vehicles such as: fuel dispensing trucks, large runway snow removal vehicles, sweepers, mobile cranes, heavy construction and earth moving vehicles, backhoes, power shovels, front end loaders and pans and trenchers. Diagnoses the cause of mechanical failures by means of visual and auditory checks, test equipment such as engine analyzers, compression testers, voltmeters, ohmmeters and pressure gauges in order to determine the exact nature or extent of repairs or adjustments necessary to complete work. Removes and disassembles engines and major systems/subsystems on fuel, hydraulic, air and oil systems. Makes repairs, overhauls or modifications in accordance with the proper procedures and specifications. Performs body repair and corrosion control, refinishes, wash and wax and repaints surfaces as required. Repairs and/or replaces body parts, locks, glass, etc and determines if additional repairs are required. Repairs may be accomplished by using welding equipment, power tools, hand tools and other specialized equipment. Prepares, maintains and submits applicable maintenance work orders for man-hour and data collection accounting, to include completing forms to reflect work performed or delayed and parts and maintenance required. Assists in review and updating maintenance technical orders, shop operating instructions, commercial publications, MAJCOM and local publications, as well as other pertinent directives. Assists in establishing and maintaining adequate branch and special stock support levels and appropriate shop support equipment and tools. Uses and maintains all appropriate shop equipment. Participates as OJT Instructor in the vehicle maintenance area. Assists in conducting the local occupational safety and health training program, to include compliance with directives and procedures for proper disposal of hazardous waste products within the functional area. Operates general and special purpose vehicles and base maintenance and materials handling equipment, as required to support the unit mission. Performs other duties as assigned.

Evaluation Factors: Candidates will be evaluated on the basis of appropriate education, experience, training, self-development activities, and special awards. Experience which has provided a thorough knowledge of diagnostic equipment. Experience applying independent judgment in determining methods and techniques required to solve unusually complex maintenance and repair problems. Experience in testing, inspecting, and evaluating the work performed on heavy mobile vehicles, equipment and systems.

Remarks: No PCS available. Members with 10 years of military service must obtain a waiver to not attend military schools for member who do not hold 2T3XX AFSC upon selection. If waiver is denied, member forfeits position. Members with rank higher than identified in 'key requirements' are eligible to apply but, will be required to take a reduction should they be selected. The military grade of the supervisor must equal or exceed the grade of personnel supervised. Normal color vision as defined in AFI 48-123 is required. This position is subject to rules and regulations of the USAF and the ANG, to include fitness standards, as well as any AFSC specific requirements. This is a dual status position.
Selective Placement Factor: ENLISTED (Amn/E-2 to TSgt/E-6)
Acceptance of a technician position will result in the termination of your Selected Reserve bonus.
