This position is located at the Micmac Indian Health Service, Presque Isle, ME. The purpose of this position is to provide clinical administrative support and medical assistance to medical providers and nursing staff who provide direct patient care. In all phases of work, emphasis is placed on disease prevention, health promotion, rehabilitation, and cultural awareness.

· Screen for and administer age-appropriate vaccines and approved medications as ordered by health care provider.
· Give immunization injections to assigned patients without the doctor actually being in the room.
· Escort patients to exam room and prepare them for the healthcare provider visit.
· Perform a variety of supporting diagnostic tests, including oximetry, peak flow, EKGs, venipuncture, and blood glucose testing.
· Answer phones in Medical Department; directing incoming calls and questions to the appropriate personnel in a timely manner.
· Maintain and update information in various case management systems.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
GS-05: One (1) year SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE (see below) equivalent to at least the GS-04 OR successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree, with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Examples of specialized experience include:
GS-05: Experience assisting the provider in medical treatments, performing supporting diagnostic tests (peak flow, EKGs, venipuncture, and blood glucose testing upon Provider direction), administering age-appropriate vaccines as directed by the Provider Team; assisting in the collection of needed specimens for laboratory testing; ensuring patients understand the providers instructions regarding home care and any follow-up required; and attending Provider Team meetings to determine what scheduled patients may require in the way of services.
Combining Experience and Education: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience are also qualifying.
