This position is located in Nutrition and Food Services, VA Medical Center, Black Hills Health Care System. WG-3 Food Service Workers perform tasks with several steps or a sequence of tasks that require attention to work operations. They follow set procedures in accomplishing repetitive assignments and follow an established sequence of work. The incumbent must apply knowledge of special procedures in preparing food and serving patients. They have the skill to organize their work assignments in a logical sequence, execute tasks quickly and accurately, and meet strict meal schedules. WG-3 Food Service Workers complete assignments individually or as part of a team under general supervision of the immediate supervisor.

PHYSICAL EFFORT/REQUIREMENTS:
The WG-3 Food Service Worker performs work requiring moderate to heavy physical effort; continuous standing and walking; frequent stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, bending; frequently lifts or moves objects up to 40 pounds; and may be required to perform heavy work such as scouring and scrubbing large-size cooking utensils and pushing heavy carts and trucks in unloading and storing supplies.
WORKING CONDITIONS: The work is performed in a hospital food service area and involved hazards which might be encountered in an institutional kitchen such as working in areas often uncomfortable due to temperature extremes of hot/cold, humidity and noise; risk of slips, trips or falls; exposure to cuts, bruises and burns; and regular and recurring risk of exposure to contagious diseases.
Your background must demonstrate the ability to keep things neat, clean and in order; interpret instructions, use and maintain kitchen utensils and equipment, understand basic food handling techniques, assemble patient trays, and has the dexterity and coordination to comply with safety practices. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume or OF-612.
