- Performs a variety of routine taskings in the cost analysis field designed to advance the intern's analytical, judgment, procedural and technical skills. Assists in extracting and organizing data, and in conducting basic statistical and quantitative analyses of program data to highlight trends, accomplishments, deficiencies and other desired indicators. Assists in the accomplishment of portions of economic studies of operating systems which may include any or all of the following: performance of cost and economic analysis for routine military construction projects and information technology (IT) requirements; development of cost factors for contracting studies, flying hours, reimbursable program, and other major missions assigned to the installation; analysis of current resource utilization and projection of future resource requirements for the activity; etc. As directed, compiles financial and operational data from records, historical files, and related reports for use by others in the analysis of problems, issues, and concerns. Reviews data for consistency and accuracy. Performs developmental assignments providing experience with commonly used cost analysis practices, procedures, methods, and tools. - Performs a variety of tasks to support budget formulation. Receives formal and on-the-job instruction and training designed to familiarize the employee with functions and operations of the organization, and to provide experience in the practical application of basic financial management activities. Assignments consist of assisting a higher grade financial specialist in budget formulation work, as well as performing limited budget formation tasks. As directed, reviews organizational historical data and/or matches funding requests or projected costs of selected line items with past records. Learns and applies methods for determining appropriate appropriation account, object class, and line item code. Provides support to others in the performance of routine budget formulation work such as entering budgetary information on forms, schedules, and reports. Assembles information for use by others.
- Uses automated financial management databases and systems and their products. Develops experience with and utilizes USAF and other federal government databases and systems. Working with higher graded specialists performs quality checks of database information. Uses available information technology (IT) software programs to produce reports of financial data. Uses IT products to assist others in analyses of financial management information.
- Performs special assignments in keeping with the formal training plan. Includes administrative assignments to develop knowledge of the mission and organization of the financial community; preparation of reports for special interest areas; development and presentation of accomplishments, results of assignments, etc. Develops increasing knowledge of relevant DoD and Air Force policies and directives. Develops an increasing awareness of cost aspects in considerations, recommendations and decisions.
