Employee will serve as a Journeyman Electrician assigned to Facilities Management, at the Department of Veterans Affairs Black Hills Health Care System, Fort Meade, South Dakota. Duties will include, but may not be limited to the following:
The Electrician's primary duties are those of a full journeyman grade electrician, consisting of the following responsibilities: maintains, repairs, performs preventive maintenance on, installs, upgrades and troubleshooting all electrical lines, switches, transformers, motors, emergency generators, elevators, refrigeration, air conditioning, and electrical equipment, and operates/uses a wide variety of hand and power tools associated with the electrical trade safely. The electrician is required to read blueprints, repair and install electrical equipment according to accepted standard practices of the trade, complying with applicable codes, and regulations. The electrician will be required to assign work to electrician helpers and provide guidance as necessary to ensure proper completion of the job assigned. Performs other related duties as required.
WORK SCHEDULE: Monday-Friday, 8:00am 4:30pm

Physical Effort: Repairs and installations are made from ladders and scaffolding. Work requires the Electrician to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. The work requires frequently lifting, carrying and setting up parts and equipment that may weigh up to 50 pounds. Occasionally the Electrician will be required to lift and carry items that weigh over 50 pounds. On occasion the Electrician will be required to work from buildings and equipment that are up to 4 stories high.
Working Conditions: The work is performed indoors and outdoors and is usually dirty, dusty, and greasy. Work is sometimes required in areas where bad smelling fumes are present. The Electrician is frequently exposed to uncomfortable heat conditions. He/she is frequently exposed to the possibility of broken bones.
