This position is located in the Oceanic and Atmospheric Research (OAR), Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory (GFDL) with one vacancy in Plainsboro, NJ.
This position will be filled under the DOC Alternative Personnel System (CAPS). This system replaced the Federal GS pay plan and structure. Under CAPS, positions are classified by career, pay plan, and pay band.
The ZP-4 is equivalent to the GS-13/14.

As a Research Oceanographer, you will perform the following duties:
- Lead efforts to improve scientific understanding of past, present, and future marine ecosystems, biogeochemistry, and climate, and their interactions with human activities.
- Facilitate understanding of how environmental changes affect marine ecosystems and its predictability.
- Provide informed guidance on a range of water quality, living marine resources and climate change issues to Line Offices; Take part in science focus groups; Represent ocean ecosystems and biogeochemistry predictability and prediction communities; Attend conferences and present research; Peer review scientific papers and proposals; and collaborate with faculty, students and postdocs.
- Apply knowledge and understanding of oceans, ocean phenomena, and aquatic life to develop predictive Earth System (ES) representations that communicate the current and future state of Earth’s oceans.
