This position is located in in the Locksmith Branch of the Personnel & Physical Security Division, the Office of Protection Services. The purpose of this position is to serve as a locksmith to install service and repair the full range of lock, key, safe and vault systems utilized throughout the Smithsonian Institution. The incumbent is responsible for the integrity of the Institution's high security keying systems, vaults and safes and the locking systems protecting all Smithsonian facilities.

Physical Effort: Moderate degree of lifting may be required, for example when doors are removed for service or adjustment. Some climbing of ladders, stooping and kneeling is required in the pursuit of lock installations. Close hand-eye coordination is required.
Working Conditions: The majority of work is performed in a shop environment. Some work is performed on perimeter door, windows and gates, etc. twelve months a year, in all weather conditions. Some work may be performed in dusty areas or rooms with temperature extremes, or in construction areas.
NOTE: A valid drivers license is required to perform those duties involving the use of a Smithsonian vehicle.
