NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED: This is an excepted position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the National Guard. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an excepted position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.

REMARKS:TEMPORARY PROMOTION Position opened to current employees in the Virginia Army National Guard Military Technician Program. Selected applicant will receive a temporary promotion Not to Exceed 1 Year. Should the need for temporary time limitations placed on this position no longer exist, the Temporary Promotion could be converted to a permanent action without further competition. Additionally, applicant selected can be returned to the position held prior to the Temporary Promotion when the temporary action is no longer needed.

This position is located in the Joint Forces Headquarters—State, Logistics Directorate (J-4), Surface Maintenance Facility. The purpose of the position is to serve as an inspector of surface maintenance vehicles and equipment to ensure that physical and operating characteristics are within acceptable standards and specifications.

DUTY LOCATION: MATES, Fort Pickett, Blackstone, VA  23824

EMPLOYMENT STATUS:  Excepted Service Male/Female Enlisted Personnel (E5/SGT-E9/SGM) and Warrant Officers (Not to Exceed W3/CW3) 


- All qualified Male/Female Enlisted Personnel (E5/SGT-E9/SGM) and Warrant Officers (Not to Exceed W3/CW3) currently employed (permanent) in the Virginia Army National Guard Military Technician Program.


MILITARY CRITERIA:  Applicant must be qualified and eligible for award of an MOS as follows: E CMF: 12, 13, 14, 19, 25, 88, 91, 92, 94;  WO BR: 12, 13, 14, 19, 25, 91, 92, 94; W MOS: 882A

MILITARY ASSIGNMENT:  Applicant selected for this military technician position must occupy a military assignment in the Virginia Army National Guard that ensures proper grade, unit, and MOS prior to placement.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:   Inspects a large variety of heavy-duty mobile equipment, combat, tactical and automotive vehicles such as attack tanks, large cranes, tank retrievers, fire trucks, bridge transporters, armored vehicle launched bridges, bulldozers, road graders, crawler tractors, power shovels, self propelled earth compacting equipment, self propelled artillery, etc. May also inspect heavy artillery, small arms, powered support and other equipment or components of equal or lesser complexity.Inspects complex, interrelated mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electronic and electrical systems, equipment and their components while in operation or in a standby condition.  Inspects equipment to determine repairs needed. Utilizes established Maintenance Expenditure Limits (MEL) to evaluate economic feasibility of repair(s). Inspects the full range of equipment as described above at remote worksites in support of field organizations, field units during field exercise training periods, or before major pieces of equipment are sent for repair to a supporting maintenance facility. Serves as inspector on Command Maintenance Evaluation Teams (COMET) and/or as a member of Maintenance Assistance and Instruction Teams (MAIT).
