Accredited by the Joint Commission, the Whiteriver PHS Indian Hospital is a 40-bed hospital and provides ambulatory and inpatient services for 17,000 White Mountain Apache Tribal Members and 4,000 Native Americans living in the surrounding areas. The Cibecue Health Center, located 50 miles southwest of Whiteriver, provides outpatient, urgent care, dental, and community health service to 1,800 residents of Cibecue and Carrizo.
Two (2) Permanent Full-Time Pharmacy Technician position to be filled in the Pharmacy Department at the Whiteriver Service Unit (WRSU) in Whiteriver, Arizona. The Incumbent will perform various duties involving in-patient and out-patient responsibilities that requires the application of an extensive knowledge of pharmaceutical and pharmacy practice. The Incumbent must be familiar with prescription processing, bulk compounding, maintaining inventory and supplies, and with ongoing quality improvement activities. The Incumbent will work under the supervision of the Department Pharmacist.

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
GS-04: You must have 6 months of general experience and 6 months of specialized experience that includes duties such as:
Checking pharmacy stock to determine required levels and rotated properly to ensure freshness and stored. Repackaging prescriptions into smaller units and weighing a variety of items, e.g., liquids, tablets, capsules. Determining information such as generic name of drug, manufacturer's name, lot number, control number, shipment number, etc., is properly recorded in log book and on labels. Preparing specified parts of drug supply orders received from wards, clinics, emergency room, etc. Correctly packaging drugs being sent to patients or to satellite pharmacies for shipment by mail, rail, or truck.
GS-05: You must have one year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-04) that included duties such as:
Reconstituting certain sterile medications to be added to intravenous solutions. Receiving and filling ward and clinic drug supply orders for a wide variety of items stocked in the pharmacy. Routinely touring areas serviced by the pharmacy, e.g., wards, clinics, special services, to ascertain replenishment needs from nurses. Bulking compounds, packaging, and labeling complex products for internal consumption, e.g., cough syrups, laxatives. Determining which direction labels are appropriate for compounded products. Compounding and bottling sterile solutions such as irrigating and saline solutions. Setting up individual prescription orders for frequently prescribed items that are already repackaged and labeled.
GS-06: You must have one year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-05) that included duties such as:
Performing substantially all sterile solution operations. Assuring adherence to sterile procedures, care of equipment, use of correct labeling materials, required techniques for sterilization procedures, scheduling sterilization of bottles, and performance of standard aseptic techniques on all completed solutions. Ascertaining basic unit needs from appropriate hospital staff and referring any problems to pharmacist. Performing substantially all bulk compounding in the pharmacy. Bulking compounds, packaging, and labeling all products according to master formula cards including most complex products following rigid sterile procedures which involve use of special equipment. Coordinating supply and demand for products with users and meeting with company representatives about basic problems with equipment, labels, etc. Receiving and reviewing orders for intravenous additive solutions, and calculating and converting proper weights and measures to the amount of solution and drugs to be used. Reading individual prescriptions and determining type, strength, and dosage of drug to be dispensed. Setting up prescriptions by obtaining correct stock container, counting or pouring correct amount of medication, and placing medication in smaller containers.
