The Behavioral Health Service Line at the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System (VAPHS) in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania seeks BE/BC Adult Psychiatrist. VA Pittsburgh provides cutting-edge surgical and procedural care to veterans ranging from common outpatient procedures to complex cardiovascular, thoracic, general surgical, ENT, urologic, orthopedic, plastic and reconstructive, and gynecologic surgery.
For the position of Physician (Supervisory Outpatient Psychiatrist), the duties include, but are not limited to:

Physical Requirements: Must be able to physically and mentally perform the duties of Psychiatrist with Behavioral Health under normal and emergent conditions. Moderate lifting 15-44 lbs. and over with assistive devices, heavy carrying of 15-44 lbs. and over with assistive devices; reaching above shoulder; use of fingers, both hands required, walking or standing up to 4 hours per day; repeated bending up to 1-2 hours per day; ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination; near vision correctable; hearing aid permitted. Basic Requirements:
Citizenship: Citizen of the United States. (Non citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3g, this part.)
Education: Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are:
(1) Schools of medicine holding regular institutional membership in the Association of American Medical Colleges for the year in which the degree was granted.
(2) Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the American Osteopathic Association for the year in which the degree was granted.
(3) Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or in the District of Columbia as qualifying for full or unrestricted licenser.
(4) For residents, graduation from an approved medical school as described above is required except as provided in M-8, part II, Chapter 1.
Licensure and Registration: Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. The physician must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure. The facility Director may waive this licensure requirement if the physician is to serve in a country other than the United States and the physician has licensure in that country.
English Language Proficiency: Physicians, including residents, appointed to direct patient-care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d)
Preferred Experience: For this particular position, it is highly preferred that the successful candidate be BC/BE by the American Board of Psychiatry. Our psychiatrists work with a high level of independence.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
