This position is located within the VISN 12 Great Lakes Finance Service at the Tomah VA Medical Center, Tomah WI. This position serves as the Payroll Coordinator and is the primary source of payroll expertise at the VAMC Tomah.
Provides technical guidance and VISN training to the payroll staff located at other sites in the VISN.
Plans, organizes and reviews work for technical accuracy and quality for the unit.
Performs the full range of payroll duties under a centrally automated payroll system.
Trains and monitors the performance of unit time keepers and supervisory/approving officials throughout the facility.
Receives and responds to inquiries on the technical aspects of the pay and leave management processes of VA.
Provides technical assistance to Product Line employees located at Tomah Medical Center.
Performs clerical and technician work that results in the biweekly or monthly determination of pay for civilian pay employees.
Examines personnel actions, pay changes and employee requests, and makes appropriate changes to master records, which serve as a basis for pay and leave computation and affect the disbursement of pay.
Actively participates in the agency debt collection program as it pertains to the recovery of over payments of salary, veteran's benefits, Canteen allotments, and other debts due the U.S. Government.
Provides and analyzes data and reports for the VISN and provides virtual support to the other Northern Tier Payroll Coordinators with changes and corrections.
Provides assistance with the day to day Travel Processing for the Tomah Medical Center.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm
Position Description Title/PD#: Civilian Payroll Technician, PD#3272-0
Physical Requirements: The employee performs sedentary work; however, there may be some walking, standing, bending, or carrying of light items.
Time-in-grade: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. For a GS-7 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-6 level
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by thirty days of the closing date of this announcement.
Specialized Experience GS 7: You must possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-06) in Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as creating, analyzing and reconciling complex pay adjustment spreadsheets; training and giving guidance to payroll staff, time keepers and personnel staff on new and existing payroll policies and procedures; Examining personnel actions, pay changes and employee requests, and making appropriate changes to master records, which serve as a basis for pay and leave computation and affect the disbursement of pay.
