These are TEMPORARY POSITION that will generally last at least 3 months but no longer than 6 months (or 1039 working hours) within one service year. Golden Gate NRA and Whiskeytown NRA are seeking several bright, dynamic individuals to fill the position of Recreation Assistants (Lifeguards), GS-0189-3/4/5 (at the GS-3 level, title will be Recreation Aid, GS-0189-03) for the Spring/Summer 2017 season.
Golden Gate will hire up to ten positions at either the GS-3, GS-4 or GS-5 levels. Positions are located at Stinson Beach (in Marin County) and Ocean Beach (in San Francisco County).
Whiskeytown will hire up to 5 positions at the GS-4 level and 1 at the GS-5 level. Positions are located at Brandy Creek Beach.
Both Full-time (80 hours per pay period) and Part-time (32-48 hours per pay period) positions may be filled from this announcement, Applicants must indicate one or both acceptable work schedules on the questionnaire.
Approximate start dates of employment are from early April to early November 2017. This announcement may be used to fill additional similar vacancies, should the need arise.
Housing:
Golden Gate NRA may have shared dormitory-style seasonal housing available.
Whiskeytown NRA may have housing on a first-come first-served basis available.

FOR THE GS-5 LEVEL - CERTIFICATION AND EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES (EMS) SKILLS AS A FIRST RESPONDER: Must possess and maintain certification and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) skills as a First Responder. You must submit proof with your resume.
FOR THE GS-3 & 4 LEVEL: CERTIFICATION IN FIRST AID AND CPR: Must possess and maintain certification in First Aid and CPR. You must submit proof with your resume.
DRUG TESTING: You will be subject to drug testing (including: PRE-EMPLOYMENT, RANDOM, AND REASONABLE SUSPICION TESTING) during course of employment.

OPERATOR IDENTIFICATION: You will be required to operate a government vehicle, therefore, must be able to acquire and hold a valid state Driver's License.
WORK SCHEDULE: Both Full-time and Part-time positions may be filled from this announcement. Seasonal positions subject to shift work, night and/or weekends, emergency call-out, considerable driving to and from all areas within the park, and may include working holidays.
SELECTIVE SERVICE: Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must certify that they have registered with the Selective Service System or provide proof that they are exempt from Selective Service Law.
GOVERNMENT HOUSING: You are not required to occupy government housing/quarters; however dormitory style housing may be available for rent at the Golden Gate NRA locations.

To qualify for this position at the GS-03 grade level, you must meet at least one of the following minimum qualifications:
EXPERIENCE: At least six months of general experience. General experience is any type of work that demonstrates your ability to perform the work of this position; OR is experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad subject area of the occupation.

EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least 1 year above high school (30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours).

Specialized experience is experience as a lifeguard, group leader or counselor in recreation programs for adults or children; teacher's aide for elementary recreation or physical education; aid or assistant in the organization of administration of recreation activities, etc.

EDUCATION: Successful completion of two years (60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours) of education above high school with at least 12 semester hours in any combination of related courses related to recreation (e.g., basic psychology, group dynamics, physical education, arts and crafts, etc.).

Successful completion of a COMBINATION of education and experience as described above. A combination of education and specialized experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the experience requirements, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. To qualify for this position at the GS-05 grade level, you must meet at least one of the following minimum qualifications:
