The FAA Human Factors Division provides scientific and technical support for civil aviation human factors for flight crew and air traffic control (ATC) domains. Human factors for flight crew includes such areas as flight standards, flight deck operations, aviation maintenance operations, aircrew training, and applications of aviation technologies. Human factors for ATC includes ATC systems, operations, and acquisitions, technical operations (maintenance) support, personnel selection and training, and communication, navigation, and surveillance system integration.
The division manages the span of contract activities including agreements with FAA and other federal research offices, industry contracts, and academic grants. These contracts develop human factors scientific and technical information to support the development of standards, procedures, training, policy, and other guidance material addressing human factors in safety-critical flight crew performance areas, as well as development and integration of human factors methods and guidance in ATC operations and acquisitions. These contracts promote the safety and performance of civil aviation and the national airspace system including the Next Generation Air Transportation System (NextGen).
Incumbent will serve as a Human Factors specialist who will, under management direction, perform a mixture of basic and routine (but progressively more difficult) assignments and provide human factors and project management support to a team of Human Factors program managers. Assist senior staff and research sponsors in assessing human performance issues and defining research requirements. Will assist in the planning, development, and management for a part of complex human factors research contracts. Communicate status and results to senior specialists or first line manager. Will assist managing research projects and contracts under routine guidance from senior staff and periodic review from the first line manager including preparing contractual documents (e.g., Statement of Work, Independent Cost Estimate), evaluating proposals; tracking budgets and reviewing invoices; monitoring schedules, and assist in technical review and approval of deliverables. Help identify and assess contract risks and mitigations; and assist in preparing briefings and presenting program summaries to FAA managers, advisory committees, and other meetings. Assist with coordinating human factors research and engineering programs across FAA and with external stakeholders.

Basic Qualifications:
To qualify for this position, you must have a bachelor's degree in behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position,

a combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with the knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field,
OR
four years of appropriate experience that demonstrate that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
