Performs accounting duties that require detailed knowledge of general accounting principles. Reviews accounting transactions daily for validity, budget and expenditure limitation, completeness and correctness of accounting data. Codes data for general ledger entry upon validation of appropriate expenditure rules. Records valid transactions to transaction sheets indicating type of appropriation and fund, control account, subsidiary account, limitation and cost center. Reconciles all undelivered/unfulfilled transactions monthly within the various accounting systems. Reconciles and resolves transaction coding issues within the general ledger using double entry accounting procedures. Works with activity managers on status of unfulfilled purchase orders. Assists in the processing and receipt of funding allotments, initiations, commitment and obligation documents into the accounting systems. Prepares and maintains journals, subsidiary ledgers, schedules and recapitulations reflecting the various transactions. Advises supervisor of conditions that would result in the over-obligation of funds. Gathers information and finalizes fiscal year closeout and year-end review reports.
Provides World Class Customer Service with an emphasis on courtesy. Assists customers and communicates positively in a friendly manner. Takes action to solve problems quickly. Alerts the higher-level supervisor, or proper point of contact for help when problems arise. Adheres to safety regulations and standards. Promptly reports any observed workplace hazards, and any injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the immediate supervisor. Adheres to established standards of actively supporting the principles of the EEO program and prevention of sexual harassment.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
EVALUATIONS:
Three years experience that demonstrates knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and practices, with a focus on general ledger accounting; ability to acquire and apply a knowledge of the principles, policies and operating details of the accounting system; knowledge of procedures necessary to verify and determine problem areas or irregularities and recommend solutions; and specific knowledge of accounting procedures and general accounting office operation. Knowledge in creating spreadsheets that require formulas, linking and formatting. Skill to lead employees in the accomplishment of work. This is a white-collar position where occasional lifting up to 20 lbs may be required.
