This announcement will be used to fill positions in our inpatient units to include; Acute Medical/Surgical, Surgery, Intensive Care Unit, Float Pool, Inpatient Behavioral Health, Emergency Department, and the Community Living Center in Miles City, MT. Duty descriptions will vary depending on the position to be filled.
Using the Care Partnership Model of Care, the nurse collaborates with nursing staff, physicians, and other interdisciplinary team members responsible for patient care as assigned and may act as the designated Charge Nurse on the unit. The nurse provides care and counseling of persons or in the promotion and maintenance of health and prevention of illness and injury based upon the nursing process which includes systematic data gathering, assessment, appropriate nursing judgment, and evaluation of human responses to actual or potential health problems through such services as case finding, health teaching, health counseling; provision of care supportive to or restorative of life and well-being; and executing medical regimens including administering medications and treatments.
This area serves critically ill adult and elderly Veterans. Patients often present with multiple chronic medical conditions and includes psychiatric components. Experience and/or training in geropsychiatric care of elderly patients is preferred as this unit treats patients with a diverse set of mental health disorders, including age-related diseases such as Alzheimers and dementia, and chronic diseases such as depression, bi-polar disorder, schizophrenia and substance abuse. The nurses primary commitment is to the patient, whether an individual, family, group, or community (ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses).
The nurse will cross-train to other inpatient units to provide relief coverage after orientation has been completed for unit. The nurse may be assigned to the Charge Nurse role for the unit after completing training and demonstrating competence.
Relocation expenses will not be reimbursed.
Physical Requirements; Moderate lifting (15-44 lbs), moderate carrying (15-44 lbs), Straight pulling, pushing, reaching above shoulder, use of fingers, both hands required, walking, standing, repeated bending, both legs required, ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously, near vision correctable at 13" to 18" Jaeger 1-4, far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and 20/40 in the other, depth perception, ability to distinguish basic colors, hearing (aid permitted), emotional stability, mental stability, sitting 3-4 hours intermittently, hand & eye coordination, and twisting.
VA Montana has a RN Residency/Transition to Practice Program. Per VA Directive 2011-039 participation in this program is required for all nurses who have less than 1 year of registered nurse experience or as recommended by the Associate Director Patient Care Services.
