Position Summary: This is one Senior Scientist and Technical Manager (SSTM) Interdisciplinary position that can be filled as a Supervisory Principal Research General Engineer, Physical Scientist, Psychologist, or Operations Research Analyst, DR-05. SSTM positions are scientific and technical positions which exceed the DR-04 (GS-15) level. SSTM positions are covered under alternative personnel system known as the Department of Defense Science and Technology Reinvention Laboratory (STRL) Personnel Management Demonstration Project at the Air Force Research Laboratory. SSTMs provide a continuity of technical leadership and oversight that is needed to ensure long term stewardship of an organization's technical capabilities. Typically, applicants for SSTM positions are expected to have a graduate degree, significant research or development experience, and a national or international reputation in his/her field and are recognized throughout the applicable community as a renowned expert. SSTM positions are in the competitive service.

MAJOR DUTIES (may include):
AFRL/711 HPW Vice Director serves in an interdisciplinary position that formulates, plans, initiates, and directs a broad range of Air Force (AF) missions enabling Science and Technology (S&T) and Defense Health Programs (DHP) that span across AF core functions, domains, and mission areas; and leads/manages/provides highly advanced scientific and technical guidance on critical human systems Science and Technology, aerospace medicine research, and human systems integration programs and related strategic issues.
Utilizes expert level knowledge and experience in physical sciences, behavioral sciences, statistical and analytic methods, or engineering research to provide counsel in these areas to all levels, to include senior GO, SES, undersecretary, secretary; as well as industry president, vice president, and CEO levels and across the spectrum of defense organizations to include: MAJCOMs, COCOMs, HQ USAF, OSD, other services, DARPA, other US agencies to include DOE, NASA, the Intel community, universities, and an industrial base comprised of companies and corps.
Responsible for performance of strategy-to-task, roadmap, and portfolio development; DHP and S&T program execution, performance, and contribution to the AF mission; and multi-domain/discipline integration and collaboration.
Supervises, leads, manages, and develops workforce of multi-disciplined group of Scientists and Engineers and support staff that cover numerous program areas that encompass numerous major technical thrusts. Provides institutional oversight of human subject research programs as well as biosurety programs.
Provides supervision, leadership, management, and development over an organization of civil service members, military officers and enlisted, technical subject matter experts contractors, and support contractors. Ensures a highly integrated, productive, effective, and motivated workforce.
