The Alexandria VA Health Care System is seeking a  Staff Physician (Hematologist/Oncologist) who will  be responsible for providing comprehensive medical and selected specialty services for outpatients, inpatients, and nursing home patients.  The Alexandria VA Health Care System, Alexandria, Louisiana is a Joint Commission accredited, complexity level 3 facility serving Veterans within 23 of Louisiana’s 64 parishes. The Alexandria VAHCS is located in Pineville, Louisiana with community based outpatient clinics (CBOCs) in Jennings, Lake Charles, Lafayette, Fort Polk, and Natchitoches, Louisiana.

An opportunity exists for up to a full-time hematologist/oncologist (Preferred Board Certified/Board eligibility in Hematology/Oncology) at the Alexandria VA Health Care System.  The incumbent serves as a Staff Physician (Hematology/Oncology) in Medical Service and is the lead for Cancer Care at Alexandria VA Health Care System (VAHCS).  The successful candidate should be comfortable performing all aspects of adult hematology/oncology.  Most care will be provided in an outpatient setting.  Incumbent is a member of Tumor Board as well as other applicable committees locally and nationally as needed.  The selected candidate should the ability to work well with a large, diverse and dedicated patient care staff; duties include but are not limited to:

  • Diagnosing, treating, and managing patients with hematology and oncology diseases according tp standard, usual and acceptable or customary methods and techniques in the outpatient and inpatient settings.
  • Specific services include, but are not limited to, palliative care, biopsy and aspiration and providing medical oversight for the Chemotherapy Infusion Room.
  • The physician will report to the Chief of Medical Service or his/her designee.
  • The incumbent shall be expected to cooperate with, and participate in, medical duties or functions related to quality of care and peer review along with improvement/ performance improvement activities at the direction of the Chief of Medical Service.

Work Schedule: Full-time. (Dayshift: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; Part-Time or Intermittent may be available.

Bargaining:  This position is eligible for union representation and the Merit Promotion provisions of the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) Union contract will apply.
