ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: The NGA Source Strategies Office (SXO) leverages data science to achieve machine-to-machine integration of collection resources. Develop and apply technical methods to identify, collect, process, and analyze large volumes of cross-intelligence data that spans cross-INT databases and systems. Apply statistical and mathematical algorithms to identify trends in structured and unstructured data, and correlate and visualize information based on analytical models.
Data Scientist will develop and apply tools and approaches to geospatial, open source, and other data as required to identify, collect, process, analyze, and visualize large volumes of discover relationships, build new and enhance existing products, processes, and systems; conduct data mining and retrieval on large volumes of data. Develop and work within systematic hypothesis-driven approaches. They will write search queries using program languages, and apply mathematical approaches to identify trends, visualize complex and/or unstructured datasets, optimize performance, and gather business metrics; use analytic tools and techniques such as GIS, data visualization, modeling, and statistical analysis to create structured data environments to address complex military and intelligence problem sets.
They will establish priorities and plan research and other projects and establish project goals. They will also engage with customers to understand and participate changing needs and requirements; and anticipate substantive questions. They will provide IT architecture and technology recommendations for streamlining agency operation based on quantitative analysis. Collaborate with NGA, military, IC collectors and analysts to identify and close gaps on complex intelligence problems; devise creative all source data collection strategies to fill intelligence gaps; task specific collections resource. They will collaboratively lead the identification of new sources of intelligence and advance quantitative query. They will champion quantitative analysis, ensuring all products incorporate multiple lines of inquiry and are fully coordinated with all stakeholders. Expand approaches and strategies to market statistical and methodological services to new or potential partners or customers.
The candidate will leverage contemporary data analytic software and approaches to discover, prepare, manipulate and normalize large unstructured data sets. The candidate should have the ability to use mathematical concepts and techniques to scientifically estimate probabilities complex analysis issues; understand concepts associated with structured data and relational databases; understand the relationship between the data collected for a real-world problem and the required structure of a relational databases to help solve that problem; have the ability to conceptualize the relationship between a database structure and the requirements for analyzing and visualizing those data both temporally and spatially.
The candidate should understand how to write scripts for modeling processes, for knowledge/source capture, and conduct hypothesis testing. The candidate should understand how to use available tools, such as Arc GIS, Excel, Tableau, SPSS, R, Python, or other programming and statistical packages to analyze and visualize data. The candidate should be able to visualize data both temporally and spatially to assist in data integrity checks, ask the next question, and display analytical assessments from diverse customer sets. The candidate should understand the data enough to know which tools to use and how to use them creatively; and communicate technical data to non-technical individuals.
