    What General Information Do I Need To Know About This Position?

    This is a term appointment for which all qualified applicants with or without Federal status may apply and be considered. Appointment to this position, however, will not convey permanent status in the Federal service and will be for a period not to exceed 13 months with possible extensions up to a total of 4 years without further competition.

    Salary: $53,610 (Step 01) to $69,688 (Step 10); NOTE: First time hires to the Federal Government are typically hired at the Step 01.

    Responsibilities

    As an Electronic Technician within the Woods Hole Science Center, some of your specific duties will include:

    -Provides technical support to scientists, engineers, and senior technicians for a range of studies of coastal and marine geology.

    -Executes field experiments to acquire geologic and oceanographic data for estuarine, nearshore, and coastal ocean circulation sediment dynamics studies.

    -Maintains, prepares, repairs, fabricates, assembles, calibrates and tests for long term deployment a variety of oceanographic equipment and equipment systems.

    -Designs, assembles, deploys and recovers oceanographic mooring and bottom lander systems.

    -Documents and archives observational data; evaluates and edits data to ensure data integrity; processes data for analysis, display, archive and testing of hypotheses.

    -Tests, evaluates, adapts protocols and documentation for operation and examination of data quality for new geologic and oceanographic instrumentation.

    -Operates government vehicle as an incidental driver.

    The U.S. Geological Survey has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework only during an emergency or natural disaster.
