The Phoenix VA Health Care System is recruiting a full-time Staff Pulmonary/Sleep Physician to support our Medicine Service, Pulmonary/Sleep/CCM Department.
The Staff Pulmonologist must be board certified/board eligible in sleep medicine, pulmonary and critical care. Previous management experience in sleep medicine or allied fields is a necessary prerequisite. The Pulmonary physician will be responsible for the following tasks:
Actively manage a large and rapidly growing sleep section
o Manage workloads such as PSG, CPAP
o Supervise a team of 3 sleep MDs,2 sleep PAs and respiratory therapists.
o Manage sleep related processes including but not limited to:
¿ PSG processing/reading
¿ CPAP therapy, follow up
¿ Home sleep studies
¿ Supervise two sleep PAs in conjunction with 3 other sleep MDs
¿ Implementing processes to address increased work loads
¿ Review all current processes for improvements
¿ Work with the chief of pulmonary and chief of medicine to coordinate sleep care.
Management of sleep and pulmonary patients on outpatient basis.
o Pulmonary clinic
o Sleep clinic
o Manage various sleep tests such as PSG, MSLTs etc.
o Consult review
Work with and supervise pulmonary felllows on sleep electives
When on call and covering the ICU on weekends
o Perform inpatient and outpatient pulmonary consultations
o Perform pulmonary and ICU procedures.
o Supervise an ICU team of medical residents and pulmonary/critical care fellows.
ACLS certification is necessary
Competency in typical pulmonary procedures such as bronchoscopy and thoracentesis. No experience in EBUS or navigational bronchoscopy is required.
VA OOORAM (out of the operating room airway management) training if already obtained will be useful but not mandated. If the candidate does not have VA OOORAM training, this will be provided after commencement.
Normal work hours will be Monday through Friday, 7:00am to 4:00pm to provide services five days per week, with rotating weekend coverage and evening and weekend call, when necessary. Weekend call averages one in four to one in five. Clinic services are required five days per week which includes patient examinations, patient education for procedure preparation, contacting patients with procedure results, and consult triaging.
Physical Requirements: This position requires the individual to successfully complete a pre-employment physical prior to being appointed to our facility.
This is a random drug testing position.
