    Responsibilities

    GS-09: This position serves as a forester in a Bureau of Land Management Fire Management Unit. The incumbent may be required to work in a less complex forestry program functional area with assignments that are more routine and conventional. The purpose of this position is to work in the myriad of work functions within the Zone Office's forestry program. The incumbent may be required to perform some or all of the duties on a rotational basis at any time at management's discretion. The work involves managing forest landscapes, forest and woodland sale planning, forest product sales and administration, reforestation, and forest stand improvements. The incumbent plans and implements technical projects and performs leadership duties in support of forestry-oriented, multiple-use land management programs, including coordination of appropriate staff to accomplish the work.

    GS-11: This position serves as forester for a Bureau of Land Management Fire Management Unit that constitute a zone depending on the needs of Bureau management. The incumbent may be required to perform as crew chief or project manager for teams of other foresters involved in forest and woodland management. The incumbent plans and implements technical projects and performs leadership duties in support of forestry-oriented, multiple-use land management programs, including coordination of appropriate staff to accomplish the work. Performance of these duties are critical to accomplishment of the long-range forest management programs, to meeting the objectives of the district/field/zone resource management plan, and to providing solutions for technical, budgetary, staffing, and customer service needs related to forest management.
