This position is located in the Research Services Division, National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC) Library, Smithsonian Libraries (SIL), Smithsonian Institution (SI) in Washington, D. C. As a Library Technician for the NMAAHC Library you will report to the Branch Librarian. You will support the NMAAHC Library by performing technical and quasi-professional operations in the areas of acquistions and serials processing; collection preservation; and reference, circulation, and interlibrary loan management.Learn more about this agency
The NMAAHC is the only national museum devoted exclusively to the documentation of African American life, history, and culture. When the NMAAHC opens on September 24, 2016, it will be the 19th and newest museum of the Smithsonian Institution.
- Responsible for the day-to-day management of the collections by arranging, sorting, and shelving collection materials.
- Responds to interlibrary loan requests by applying working knowledge of the NMAAHC Library and its collections.
- Assists with processing collections by using integrated library systems to acquire and catalog collection materials.
- Provides basic instruction on the use of the NMAAHC Library to users.
